本プロジェクトは、京都の伝統染織「京小紋」の美しさと、服部染工が誇る独自の型染め技術の魅力を広く伝えることを目的としています。伝統をただ継承するのではなく、現代の暮らしに寄り添う新たなかたちで提案し、伝統産業の持続的な発展に貢献することを目指しています。

その一環として、男女問わず羽織のように気軽に着られる現代衣服を制作。日常の中で伝統の技が息づく衣を提案することで、「受け継がれる美」と「今を生きる感性」の交差点をかたちにしています。

現在、服部染工では、半幅用のロール捺染やスクリーン捺染の技術を用いて着物の生地染めを行っていますが、着物業界の将来を見据え、アパレルやインテリアなど着物以外の分野への応用も積極的に模索しています。

伝統を現代に活かし、新たな価値を生み出す——その試みのひとつひとつが、次代へとつながる文化の種まきになると私たちは信じています。

A Project to Share the Beauty of Kyo Komon and Traditional Katazome Dyeing

This project aims to widely share the refined beauty of Kyo Komon—a traditional Kyoto stencil-dyeing technique—and to highlight the unique katazome (stencil dyeing) methods proudly developed by Hattori Senko. By reimagining tradition in contemporary forms, we hope to contribute to the sustainable future of Japan’s traditional dyeing industry.

One of our key initiatives is the creation of modern, gender-neutral garments that can be worn casually like a haori (traditional jacket). These pieces bring the elegance of traditional craftsmanship into everyday life, embodying a harmony between heritage and contemporary sensibility.

At Hattori Senko, we currently use roll and screen printing techniques primarily for kimono fabric dyeing. However, with an eye on the future of the kimono industry, we are actively exploring new possibilities for applying these dyeing methods beyond kimono—into apparel, interior design, and other creative fields.

We believe that breathing new life into traditional techniques and discovering fresh expressions is a way to plant seeds for a vibrant cultural legacy.
